Watching the Karesansui or stone garden of the Kennin-ji temple, the first Zen temple of Japan. Located in the middle of Gion, this temple is less than a 10 min walk from the house.
Living around one of Kyoto Hanamachi, Flower Town or Geisha District, is a unique experience. Around Miyagawa-Cho, a group of maiko (apprentice geisha) on their way to their evening engagement.
The Ninnenzaka area is a preserved area where you'll walk around among boutiques and coffee shops where very little has changed for centuries. This area is only 10-12 min away from the house.
Kodai-ji Temple is one of the finest temples in the Southern Higashiyama area. View of the garden designed by Japan’s most famous garden designers (Kobori Enshu).
If you like Haute Cuisine, while in Kyoto, be sure to try one fo the numerous Kaiseki restaurants and enjoy a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner. Ask us for suggestions and reservation.
The day before Japan's largest festival, the Gion Matsuri, is a great time to walk around the city and visit the various floats that will parade the city the next day.
The famous Kinkakuji or Golden Pavilion, a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. I found it even more beautiful under the snow.
A scene at the Nishi Honganji Temple in the Fall. As headquarter of one of the two factions of the Jodo-Shin Sect (True Pure Land Sect), one of Japan's largest Buddhist sects, this is a good place to experience contemporary Japanese Buddhism.
Living around one of Kyoto Hanamachi, Flower Town or Geisha District, is a unique experience. By night, the atmosphere around Miyagawa-Cho is pure magic. Here, a maiko (apprentice geisha) returning from her evening engagement.
  • Description

Miyagawacho Samurai Machiya 2F, with over 60 m2, is the full upper level of an old traditional Kyoto Machiya townhouse.
With a large LDK (living dining kitchen), two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two toilets, this apartment is part of the latest of our houses and it is by far the most luxurious one among our Kyoto Samurai Machiya.

The two bedrooms, one western and one Japanese, are separated by a large LDK, Living Dining Kitchen area, with a high ceiling and exposed wooden beams and traditional Kyoto woodwork. The Western bedroom featuring a double bed and a single sofa bed, has an en-suite bathroom (shower), powder room and toilet. There is a second full bath unit with a bathtub, shower, sink and toilet next to a laundry room.

The Japanese tatami mat room is a preserved room with older features and plain decoration, and is where Jerry, a Samurai armor, seats in the Tokonoma (alcove). Three to four persons can sleep here on futon.

Features include air conditioning in every room, floor heating in the LDK area and the Japanese tatami mat bedroom, and radiator in the western bedroom -- whether you stay in the heat of the summer or the cold of the winter, you are sure to always feel comfortable.

Small groups will enjoy the cozy area seating on a sofa around a coffee table and watching the news (BFMTV, BBC, NHK, CNN or FoxNews thanks to an Apple TV) or a movie on Netflix or YouTube on the large (50 in) flat panel HDTV.

The fully equipped modern kitchen (that can be hidden from view with sliding wooden doors) will please anyone who wants to cook at home. A comprehensive selection of cooking utensils, induction cooktop, dishwasher, microwave oven/oven, all kinds of appliances such as a rice cooker, toaster, blender, electric kettle, and regular coffee machine, and of course, pans, frying pans, dishes, plates, glasses, cutlery. And of course, you'll find all the basic ingredients such as salt pepper, oil, sauce, soja, etc.
Everything a cook will need to prepare a complete meal that you'll share around the wooden dining table with chairs for up to six persons.

There are two toilets, one in each bathroom area, and the house is equipped with a fully automatic All-In-One Washer / Dryer. You'll find appliances such as hair dryer in each bathroom, USB chargers, iron and board, etc.

Everything has been designed to be pleasant and very convenient for one or two families (equipped and spacious enough for up to six people). As our guests, you have unlimited access to superfast (optical fiber) internet via Wi-Fi throughout the apartment.

The exposed wooden beams and traditional Kyoto woodwork offers a cozy and elegant atmosphere. And the house is decorated with antique art pieces and traditional Japanese crafts.

For groups larger than six persons, the complete house is available and can accommodate up to 15 persons (although we would recommend it for twelve persons for added comfort).

The property is fully licensed and in full compliance with the laws and regulations of the city of Kyoto. Our prices include the new "Accommodation Tax" levied by the city of Kyoto.
