  • Description

Miyagawacho Samurai Machiya is a two-level traditional Japanese “machiya” style townhouse built toward the end of the nineteen century. It has been fully renovated and features luxurious modern facilities while preserving the original design and feel.
Located in Miyagawa-Cho, right next to the famous and historical Gion, our guests are within the realm of two of Kyoto's famous "Hanamachi" (geisha districts) and will enjoy the traditional lifestyle of the people of Kyoto in full modern luxury. FULLY LICENSED

This large house (over 165 m2 / 1,780 sq ft) has been entirely renovated and is just opening to the public. It features two buildings separated by a small space and a garden.
The main one that is the old original machiya, and a separate newly built one located behind the courtyard garden.
Miyagawacho Samurai Machiya 1F, with over 100 m2, is the full lower level of the old house together with the complete second building.
With a large LDK (living dining kitchen), three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two toilets, this is the latest of our houses and it is by far the most luxurious one among our Kyoto Samurai Machiya.
Features include air conditioning in every room, floor heating in the LDK and radiators in both western bedrooms -- whether you stay in the heat of the summer or the cold of the winter, you are sure to always feel comfortable.
The house features two western-style bedrooms with a double bed each and a large Japanese tatami mat living room that can be split into two spaces with fusuma or paper doors. As is traditionally done in Japan, depending on the number of guests, this area is also used as a bedroom where guests sleep on futons placed on the tatami mats.
In the large LDK, you'll enjoy the wide living area with a small sofa, a coffee table, and a large flat panel HDTV (with an Apple TV), a long dining table with chairs for up to 10 persons and a fully equipped modern kitchen.
On the ground floor, the house features a traditional wooden bathroom with bathtub and shower in the new building and another separate shower room. There are two toilets, one in each building. The house is also equipped with a fully automatic All-In-One Washer / Dryer.

Everything has been designed to be pleasant and very convenient for larger groups (equipped and spacious enough for up to 8 people).

As our guests, you have unlimited access to superfast (optical fiber) internet access via Wi-Fi throughout the house. And you'll be able to enjoy unlimited movies with Netflix, news in various languages with BFMTV, BBC, NHK or FoxNews with the large (50 in) flat panel HDTV.

A comprehensive selection of cooking utensils, induction cooktop, dishwasher, microwave oven/oven, all kind of appliances such as rice cooker, toaster, blender, electric kettle, Nespresso machine, and regular coffee machine, and pans, dishes, plates, glasses, cutlery for up to eight guests.
